Farming is the act of lovingly working the fields and greenhouses to raise crops and livestock in order to secure a prosperous and bountiful future (also, Winter Is Coming).
Crops
Crop growth is affected by the current Seasons. See that article for more information on seasonal crop impacts. Certain crops will only grow (or thrive) in certain areas. For the purpose of this article:
- Good Growing Areas include birch forests, forest hills, jungle hills, mesa, roofed forest, taiga, redwood taiga, redwood taiga hill, taiga hill.
- Great Growing Areas include beaches, birch forest, forest, jungle, mushroom island, plains, river, savanna, and swampland.
With that in mind:
- Beetroots grow only in good & great biomes.
- Carrots grow in good & great biomes, and the desert.
- Chorus flowersdo not seem to grow... anywhere.
- Cocoa grows in the jungle.
- Netherwart grows in The Nether
- Sugar Cane grows in beaches, rivers, and swampland.
- Acacia grows in savannas.
- Birch grows in forests and taiga.
- Dark Oak grows in roofed forests & mountains.
- Junglewood grows in the jungle. It's right there in the name.
- Mushrooms grow on mushroom islands & shores.
- Warped Fungus grows only in the warped forest.
Livestock
It is important to take good care of your livestock. Over-crowding is of a particular concern will result in unpleasant results like infection, death, and mild to strong smells. In general, it is recommended that livestock farmers follow the following guidelines:
- House no more of 11 animals of the same kind within 5 blocks of one another.
- House no more than 26 animals total within 160 blocks of one another.
- If you are a slaver, house no more than 11 villagers within the same chunk.
