Bun appears to be a stuffed rabbit doll carried around by Min. It wears a fancy suit. It looks a little crazy and looking into it's eyes makes you a little uneasy. Min insisted Bun was alive but for a long time we never saw him do anything other than be a stuffed rabbit and we thought maybe Min was crazy.
After Min's death[1], the Tabaxi assassin Pearl showed up looking for Bun[2]. Some time after this while traversing a cave dripping with magic in the Underdark, Bun climbed out of Pearl's pack and started behaving much more animatedly, making it apparent he was a magical creature of some kind[3].
After this change Min does not seem to notice any difference. But she's probably crazy.
A description of Bun goes like: "Bun's weight depends, is he right side up or upside down? He is curiously light but massy."
After this, Bun animatedly joined many of our quests. One night while resting we hear Bun talk to himself in his sleep. He whispers the word "Prismeer", which is a major domain located in the Feywilds[4].
When trying to help the second Elodie, Bun landed on the box that absorbed magical items that we thought was casting a protection spell on Elodie's cabin. When the box tried to devour him (proving he is magic of some kind), he seemed to fight back, breaking the illusion on the Balhannoth egg[5].
When Korag tried to heal Bun after this, he grew to about twice his previous size. We also discovered that Bun stole the dagger of stabbing from Resda[6].
During the assault on Xardarak Sunblight's keep, Bun flew ahead and committed several atrocities[7][8], and we found several cartoon bunnies drawn on the walls in blood[9]. Min seems to like this violent side of the rabbit.
While traversing the Caves of Hunger, Bun flew off and came back bleeding and badly injured. When Korag again tried to heal him he grew again, to the size of a large dog[10].
During our days in Ythryn we see Bun becoming visibly worse, though he appears to try to play things off as being fine. He coughs up blood[11], and later returns to his small size, looking frail and maybe dying[12]. Eventually he passes out and does not regain consciousness[13]. Prismeer comes up again, and potentially Bun needs to go back there.
When we saw him last in Faerun, Min was heading to the Feywild to look for help[14].
In the Feywild we ran across Bun again. This time he was hiding in the hollow of a tree, while Min was Fighting Pearl. After this fight and Pearl's death, we learned that Bun could now talk, Min had been overtaken by her daggers, and Pearl had rescued him[15]. Bun's memories were otherwise spotty, likely from his illness, no doubt related to a long absence from his home in the Feywild.
In Downfall, Bun met an old friend, Clapperclaw. In talking with them both, we learned that Bun and Clapperclaw were both the souls of children, stolen by Granny Nightshade and forced into labor. Bun had escaped some time before he met Min and began traveling with her.
