9 Elysias, late afternoon

  • It's very dark. We are back in Lonelywood.
  • Cold, tired, but safe in Lonelywood.
  • I suggest we either go to the bar or find the loggers
  • We wander to the logger camp. They have a fire going.
  • We recognize Stan, the foreman, and some of the other loggers.
  • We tell the story of the moose, and the loggers offer a local mead
  • Rumors from other towns they may have their own troubles with animals
  • The loggers don't know much about the hunters the frost druid mentioned but we might ask at the tavern
  • Min mentioned her lantern, apparently she got it at the tavern
  • Loggers have pledged support, agree we should be paid
  • Rumors
    • Two feuding goliath clans in the area, maybe we could look into that
  • No one has spent a night in the ramshackle inn since the owner committed suicide. It's currently locked and used for storing cut lumber. Nimsy has the key.
  • We're sending Korag, Rudra, and Karthos to talk to Nimsy, while the others go to the bar
  • Previous owner of the Inn was Degroots. Was once a sawyer, and had been spending increasing amounts of time in the woods. He would disappear for days at a time, until eventually they found him hanging from the rafters.
  • At the tavern it's warm and a fire is burning. There are a few people in the tavern and the tavernkeeper is walking around.
  • Min wanders over to Danica Braceheel, who asks if we have made any progress finding ??? (Chawingas?) We introduce ourselves. Danica is a half-elf, and she thinks the spirits may be behind some of the strange things that have been going on in the 10 towns. She provided a lantern (the one Min has) and an oil that will burn green in their presence.
    • She is trying to find them because they are capabile of bestowing blessings and have magical abilities
    • She suspects they may have a role to play in the weird weather, or offer a solution to it. But won't know until she has one to study
    • She has looked all over lonelywood, but she doesn't think there are any in town. She hired Min hoping she could look around some of the other towns.
    • 25 gold per guy, bonus for good spirits and condition
    • Lantern is tuned to burn the oil Danica provided. The lantern will burn 6 hours on one pint of oil, shining a fairly bright light. If we come within 30 feet of fey, the lantern will glow green. Nothing found in Lonelywood
  • Tavernkeeper's name is Danae. Striking woman, blonde hair, but somewhat average looking.
  • I ask about the hunters and the murder of the Frost Druid's sister
    • A couple of months back there was a hunter group from Brynn Shaddar who came up to hunt in Lonelywood
    • They came in shaken one night, thought they may have accidentally killed someone, but couldn't find the body
    • They drank until they convinced themselves it was a hallucination
    • From time to time hunters come up to hunt in the woods. Beautiful and excellent game. Not too many forests in Icewind Dale.
  • On logging
    • They used to just cut what was needed for 10 towns, and there was plenty of trees and they would regrow
    • Now logs are being shipped outside of the region for a big project, and at the rate they are going they'll probably cut everything down in 2-3 years.
    • Contract pays really well, for some reason. Why do they need _these_ trees. Company is in waterdeep.
  • The other group comes back from Nimsy's house. Sounds like they had success, 135 gold and the deed to the inn. I know we heard more was offered to another group but given where we left off this feels like a win.
  • At about 6 we agree to head for the inn and see about getting it ready to be habitable
  • Resda is fliriting with a drunk logger, Dagda or something
  • At the inn we light a fire and set up a makeshift camp. The inn is mostly full of wood and associated wood things, but there's certainly enough space. The guest rooms need to be cleaned up, right now they have gear in them and the beds are toast.
  • We discuss our next steps, I suggest going to Termalaine to look for these Chawingas, but we need to be in town tomorrow to pick up the deed to the inn and the money Nimsy promised. We could also ask around after the hunters, see if we can pick up their trail.
  • Before we turn in, we hear a noise from one of the bedrooms.
