Saralas: Session 57

5 Elient, Late Afternoon

• Karthos suspects the family
  • Polymorph

  • Doppleganger

• Where can they go?
  • The others mention the inn
  • How can we get them there safely?
• Saralas goes to check on the veil. The effect is no longer there
• I ask Elodie to gather what they need. Korag detects magic and detects that nothing else appears to be magical
• Does the cabin appear to be real Leigh&Co product?
• How did the object know how to impersonate a Leigh&Co product?
• Elodie doesn't seem to remember coming up here, her trip up here
• Evidence points to them being brought up here against their will, they don't seem to remember coming up here
• Elodie is muttering, trying to remember how she got here
• We debate what to do, for quite a while
• Karthos wants to polymporph things
• While we do this, Wodna knocks on the door
• She is prodding the dead creature with her toe
• She hands me an envelope
  • It is a letter from Elodie with Today's date
  • I recognize her writing
  • She and the grandchildren are safe in Neverwinter
  • On the back of the letter, Elodie has written a fact about a beautiful summer afternoon from her adolescence that Saralas does not know
  • Saralas casually asks her about that event, she does not remember that event, but starts talking about other events she remembers from that summer
• Wodna thinks this is a greater Balhannoth
  • Creatures that make a layer that resembles your dreams
  • Ordinary ones use illusionary magic, but the elders can actually bend reality
  • These people are real, created from my memory of them
  • Must have latched onto my dreams somehow
• Wodna takes them to the inn in lonelywood. I explain about Sahas and Nimsy, and write a letter to Nimsy asking for his help
• Wodna asks Elodie and the kids to hold hands and then they are gone
• We decide to risk staying in the cabin
• Korag casts a healing spell on Bun, as the spell is cast, Bun increases in size to about twice his size, floats in the air, and wakes up. He squeaks and flys around the room excitedly
• I thank Bun for his help
• Also, Bun stole the Dagger of Stabbing
• Korag looks confused "but Bun is not alive"
• "How do you define life?" Saralas asks. He has had a trying day.
• We try to cover our tracks, then settle in to rest
• Karthos has an odd vision, of the largest mushroom he's ever imagined in his entire life, with mushroom tentacles traveling along the floor in an eerie blue light, and the corpses of Myconids laying at the feet of the giant mushroom. He is all but certain he has seen a vision of the World Mushroom. The mushroom from which all other fungus are connected. The health of the world mushroom is connected to the health of all fungi throughout the planes. The mushrooms seem to be in pain.

6 Elient, Morning

• We talk, and choose to travel to the militia camp
• Travel through the mountains is difficult and perilous, and so it takes much longer than normal, particularly since we are trying to remain undetected
• We notice Hoot, who makes himself visible from time to time
• By mid-afternoon we arrive at a hastily constructed, somewhat covert camp
• We are about an hour out from Sunblight's fortress in this location
• There are around 100 able-bodied men, decently well armed though not professional soldiers
• They are preparing for battle, though avoiding fires as they are trying to avoid detection
• We are greeted by Rogarth, a man from Easthaven and claiming to be the leader of the group.
• He expresses frustration with the council, and appreciation for Wodna. We have the impression that he would be killing dwarves already if he could
• He says Wodna told him to expect an adventuring party, and he places himself in our command
• He shows us to a tent where we can talk and do some planning, and he says he is going to check on how preparations are going
• We do a lot of discussing of what we are going to do
  • In summary, get access to the gate control through the arrow slits
  • Open the gate and make sure it stays open
  • Have the militia come in and hold the entrance once we fully take it
• Coming down to sending Korag for defense, Resda because she can see invisible
• Can we open up the arrow slit using stone shape wide enough to get us through?
• We have a reasonable plan, and settle in for a morning attack
• In the night, Resda has a dream about a huge cavern with a blue light and senses a malicious presence. She senses the massive mushroom, which towers hundreds of feet in the air. Under her feet she is walking on the corpses of dried out mushroom men
• Saralas does not have any particular dreams
• Karthos thinks they are attuned to mushrooms

7 Elient, Morning

• As Karthos and Korag discuss war, Bun appears ready for battle
• "Bun, how many men have you killed?" He holds up one paw, but he has no fingers. He practices his stabbing.
• He floats over to Min, and pulls out a ring from inside himself, and gives it and a little stuffing that came with it to Min. It is magical.
• We otherwise make preparations for battle.
