Saralas: Session 52

26 Elesias

• Min asks if they've seen anyone recently. They said yes, a woman had been there.
• They say she looked around and then left, but didn't take anything.
• One of the ravens flies down and shows min where she looked, between a couple of the thrones
• The throne does not seem very remarkable.
• Baerwin looks around at the snow but it doesn't appear to have anything buried in it.
• I search in the snowy darkness and discover nothing
• Min said the ravens said "talk to the Jarls"
• Min says they come when the moon is full.
• It's the full moon on the first, days from now.
• Karthos says "oh no, I don't have moonbeam prepared"
• We're going to need to find a place to rest in that case.
• We ask a raven if it would be able to help us search for shelter. It says "no leave conspiracy", it doesn't want to leave the group and go off on its own.
• The ravens don't like the idea of getting food later in exhange for help, they want payment up front.
• Korag and Karthos put out some rations. It's madness, and very quickly all the rations they put down are gone
• We put down even more, and the ravens eat it all
• They seem insatiable, and kind of stupid
• It doesn't seem like there is much chance for success here
• Do we go back to town and try again with the spell prepared? The full moon is the 1st, so we could come back then as well.
• There is a forest there is not very distant, perhaps we can build a shelter. It's maybe a couple hours away.
• We travel to the forest, which seems to be unoccupied. There are many small trees here with thick rime ice covering their trunks.
• There's plenty of wood here to create a small cabin. Korag gets to work. We build a decent shelter, consuming the rest of the afternoon and evening.
• It's weathertight, and we are able to build a fire to keep warm. It's not luxurious but we should be OK here.
• Bun alights on a rock near the fire we built, warming himself
• We agree to take watches tonight, and Min sets up alarm
• "Are we ready to fight frost giant ghosts" Karthos asks?
• We decide to turn in for the night, resting uneventfully
• But I dream of my family again, children laughing in the snow as a blizzard closes in
• I mark our location on the map, there's a cabin 'here'

27 Elesias

• We travel a couple hours back to the thrones, and find that the ravens are nowhere to be seen
• The site is otherwise how we left it
• Korag casts detect magic, and detects the aura of magic centered on the middle of the circle of thrones
• I caution that the light will be visible from quite a ways away
• Karthos casts moonbeam in the middle of the circle
• A dim column of blue light fills the area, casting shadows on the throne. For a moment we almost believe we can see the specters of frost giants sitting on the thrones and then they are gone.
• I walk back in the circle, though not into the moonbeam. As I draw closer to the magic, I can see flickers of the shades occupying the thrones. In each of the thrones is a frost giant. The one to the south is bigger to the rest and is eying me carefully. Then the spell expires.
• I think we'll need the real full moon.
• We head back towards the cabin to wait it out. Saralas is visibly uncomfortable. Korag tries to cover our tracks.
• We argue about whether to stay or go. Saralas wants to go
• Bun falls asleep by the fire. He is talking to himself, and he says a word in common, "Prismeer"
• Baerwin knows that Prismeer is a major domain located in the fey wilds
• Resda is aware of stories of fey animating creatures, though only wooden figures
• She recalls these were available for purchase at a few circus
• We rest for several days. I dream of nothing and am unsettled
• We plan to head back to the hill on the evening of the 30th

30 Elesias, night

• We approach the thrones once again, this time bathed in the full moon's light
• We do not see hoot or the gargoyles about
• It's eerily quiet
• We step into the circle. We see the sprits of frost giants in the thrones
• The 7th giant is larger than the others, wearing a coat of white dragon scales and a horned helm
• We greet them. They say nothing. Karthos says "hail and well met" the largest ghost raises a finger, and a frost giant skeleton appears to the north
• We fight the skeleton, which hits hard.
• We defeat it. The large giant ghost claps, then leans back and raises his pinky finger.
