Saralas: Session 5

From Realm 52

  • When we start, everyone is resting in the Ramshackle Inn
  • Apparently Resda talked to Nimsy last night and he's going to stop by this morning to look at the inn, and he knows about the mummy now
  • Last night's loud noise was Karthos running into the logs
  • Apparently we can use some of them if we want. Maybe to fix up the inn a little
  • Karthos casts goodberry to provide some nourishment
  • I go outside to look outside. Resda asks if there is an owl, which there is, and if it is glowing red, which it is. We talk about the owl, but before I can address it (say good morning, etc), it flies off. I have the impression the owl probably understood us.
  • This is not normal for the region, according to Korag
  • Nimsy arrives, and after some pleasantries I invite him into the inn
  • He has a small purse with our gold, as well as the deed, but he didn't know whose names to put on it. We'll need to choose names
  • He'll have loggers come by to clear out some of the logs later, but at the moment they are out logging
  • If we want to run the inn we'll need to get a license, in Eastgate. It's a one-time fee of 50 gold
  • Logging contract is with Leigh & Company, out of Waterdeep
  • We apparently decided to introduce Nimsy to Sahas
  • Karthos asked about the woman the others saw at his house last night
  • She's apparently come through town a few times, first 6-7 months ago. Nimsy doesn't really know where she's staying, and he doesn't really want to ask her questions. But she apparently asks him many questions. About the weather, about the barbarian tribes who live on the glacier. They do deal with the goliaths from time to time, and the dwarves, but not the barbarians. He thinks there is something off about them, and we should steer clear.
  • Her name is Wodna
  • Dannika also noted that the Netherese floating city fell and might be there on the glacier as well (quest)
  • Korag remembers that Chawingas lived among the bones of a Dragon near the town where he grew up, in the Spine of the World, to the SSE.
  • Korag seems hesitant on returning, and explains his exile more. He wanted to get help, but Goliaths seem pretty isolationist
  • We (slowly) decide to head to the next town and start making our way there, eventually to Easthaven by road
  • Not far out of the town we find wooden racks with items of food decaying. Resda thinks this is sacrifices to Auril. I think this is probably true. There are items of varying ages, looks like it happens about once a month.
  • Most tracks look like normal forest reatures. But there is one large, vaguely humanoid set that appears to belong to a frost troll. Nasty thing, we should stay clear.
  • As we approach the town we encounter a girl leaving a cabin/shelter. She is yelling but we can't really hear her over the wind. Korag thinks she is warning us about a curse. He tells us to stop.
  • Human girl named Elva. Terrible ??? have been opening her windows, sending horrible chills through her home. Some of her cutlery has gone missing, and we need to mind our belongings carefully.
  • Nothing seems obviously out of place, no tracks I can see in the snow other than the girl's
  • Then Rudra points out the tiny tracks I missed. They are tiny bipedal tracks, bare feet. They might be Chawingas.
  • We light the lantern, though Min is being unreasonable. It appears to glow a bright green. We follow the tracks and Karthos finds the Chawingas. A few approach, Resda and Min and Karthos. I hang back with Korag and Rudra to keep an eye on things. Figure we shouldn't scare them too much
  • They came back with three chwingas who seemed to enjoy being with them. Korag and I suggest heading back to Lonelywood to see Dannika. But Min and Karthos seem to have taken to them and want to keep them. What on earth.
  • We head into town, though I feel we should have gone to see Dannika
  • The town is lonely and beautiful. It is quiet.
  • We stop by the Blue Clam, a recommended tavern in the area
  • Rumors include a captured wizard in Easthaven who might have killed some adventurers. Guards are looking for other adventurers to help with other issues.
  • The barkeeper, Vernon, says the mine is closed again. It's not a moose. He recalls bears, a mind flayer, and something else. With the mine closed, he has less business and he would like it open again
  • Vernon says that in Termalaine they give up warmth as sacrifice. Once a month at the new moon they all put out their fires and suffer through a freezing cold night. This hasn't seemed to make any difference, and Vernon is not a fan.
  • If we want to support the mines, we would need to talk to the Speaker, Ouras Masthew, also a half-orc. He appears to be a military man.
  • Vernon is a half-orc, and he thinks Termalaine is beautiful and no one bothers him about him being half-orc. If you're skilled and can be useful, that's all that matters, and he is very happy here.
  • Min introducers herself to the Speaker. He seems concerned about her with her size and bun.
  • Group of kobolds has crept into the mine. Miners had to abandon their jobs for now, though thankfully no one has been killed. Shortly before the kobolds showed up though another miner went missing, so they are concerned something bigger than just kobolds showed up. He is offering 50 gold to anyone who clears out the mine.
  • The mine is not too large, but the natural caverns extend all the way to the underdark.
  • He may pay to hire a magician in the town, for some reason Resda is hesistant to use magic.
  • It seems the Kobalds may really be the main thing, but he might be holding out on us if no one else has taken care of this.
  • I am still thinking of the chwingas
