- We make our way to Easthaven, we arrive in the evening
- The town is a flurry of activity. Everyone is in the streets, yelling and screaming
- Proceeding towards the town square
- We're about to witness the public execution of a human wizard, Dzann, for crimes against the people of Icewind Dale
- They light the fire beneath him. The cold arctic wind carries his screams, then a moment of silence and people move closer to get some heat.
- Dzann was a member of the Arcane Brotherhood, an evil group and he conjured illusions to manipulate events in the Ten Towns
- A woman, Imdra, introduces herself. Captain of Easthaven militia. She's heard of us and thinks we might be the right people for a job.
- 4 fishers went missing on Lac Dinneshere
- Looking for someone to scout the coastline and look for them
- Not authorized to pay a reward but she confiscated some items from the wizard
- Fireball scroll, and a gray bag of tricks
- Karthos is looking for a cleric. She points us towards the church. Elric von Sorenson. Karthos approaches him. He looks old and his face is leathery and weathered.
- Rinaldo, a self styled bard who sings the story of the White Lady, invites us to join a seance this evening. He is obsessed with the story of the White Lady and wants to call her.
- A couple of our party join the seance. We succeed in a persuasion roll.
- Rinaldo encourages us to ask the spirit questions. For a moment nothing happens, then a single line appears on one of the windows
- Somone asks what is going on at Caer Dineval. Slowly on one of the windows the words "devil cult" are drawn
- Writes "Auril" when asked about the endless winter
- Someone asks "what is the greatest threat to 10 towns", and the answer is "secret gray dwarves"
- Gray dwarves are the duergar, dwarves of the underdark
- The cleric is very unhappy with Karthos and says he can't help. Karthos is worried someone will come for him.
- We go to the tavern to get a drink. It's quite full, and spirits seem high, probably related to the recent execution. They seem to have forgotten tomorrow is the sacrifice day.
- Nymetra Myskin, a dragonborn of white dragon ancestry, brings us drinks. She is somewhat rude. She thinks the winter is a test to see if the Ten Towns is worthy.
- People have grown soft, but the winter has hardened the people as they should be. She praises Auril. She is convinced the winter is a blessing. And is certain Auril is behind this. Climate change is nonsense.
- Mentions in parting that Auril has always bestowed her gifts on icewind dale.
- We hear that in Dougan's Hole people fear wolves as big as horses, and smarter than normal wolves.
- Min discovers as she is getting ready for bed that Bun is missing. She realizes that it must have been during the execution when people were pressed against us.
- She goes to the bar, and asks around. She is pointed to lamplighter alley
- She finds the alley and goes in like a shadow
- She finds a dead guy, or part of a dead guy. And sitting at his feet is Bun. In the man's pockets she finds his eyes
- As she tries to leave she finds the exit to the Alley blocked by Imdra and two other guards
- Imdra wants to arrest Min but the local king of thieves, Edge, talks them out of it. And tells her that apparently assassins are on their way for her. (Us?)
- I have an oddly vivid and poignant dream about my wife and family and fills me with good tidings. We wake up on the morning of the 15th.
- Resda wants to sell the scales from our enemies from yesterday. She is referred to an apothecary. He offers her 830 gold for both sets. She accepts.
- She then goes to a bar looking for her grandmother. She sees a picture of her grandmother on the wall and asks about her grandmother. She went to Revel's End. It's a prison in a cliff overlooking a sea of ice. Used to hold the sword coast's worst criminals.
- Min tells us about the hit on her head. I have heard of the people she mentioned.
- Mindulguph Mercenary Company, heard of them from the 1300s
- The most prominant assassings guild on the dragon coast
- Operated on the Heartlands
- Was run by a woman name Gayrlana, who is quite famous for defeating a red wizard of Thay in single combat, despite not being a magic user herself
- The group maintains a large standing army
- Renowned across all of faerun for their tactical and military prowess
- Employ almost entirely non-humanoids, including grippli (frog people)
- They are quite expensive and not prone to trivial matters
- Before we leave, Wodna walks in to talk to a man in the corner
- After she leaves, Karthos talks to the man. She's apparently buying adventuring supplies for at least 50 men.
