Saralas: Session 18
- Morning of the 20th
- We start in Dougan's Hole
- Karthos and Min are unable to rest. They think it might be a curse
- Korag offers to try casting Remove Curse. He casts it on both of them but we won't know if it worked until/unless they try to long rest. They don't want to go anywhere in their current condition.
- Karthos suggests using Pass Without Trace to sneak out and survey things
- They take a long rest, and they feel better. Curse lifted. They had to discharge exhaustion.
- That means it's the morning of the 21st
- I see the wolves' tracks faintly in the snow and suggest we follow
- We run into a blizzard. I keep the group together but we decide to hunker down
- When the blizzard passes we see a couple wolves (normal) evaluating the party
- Min calls the wolves over and gives them 5 days of rations. They seem affectionate and Min pets the wolves.
- It takes a couple of hours but we regain the tracks of the wolves after some searching
- Karthos says no more blizzards expected in the next day
- We follow the tracks for about another hour. Jutting up from the tundra is a giant edifice made entirely of ice. The structure is huge, at least 3x the height and width of any building in the 10 towns.
- This is likely to be the frost giant's construction, given the size of the building and the doorways. There are three large doors.
- On the south side of the building we find a small tunnel in the ground about 5 feet from the wall of the building which is otherwise featureless. The tunnel looks to have been burrowed by a largish creature, and there is a strange residue coating the inside of the tunnel.
- Karthos turns into a badger to explore the hole
- Min sneaks into the south main entrance. She finds a huge animal cage holding two shivering humans in cold weather clothing. She pops open the lock, but the cage door makes a horrible noise
- A mammoth attacks. It's a big guy and it hits like a freight train. I dive out of the way of its first attack and we manage to team up to take it down, but not before it stomps on Rudra, hurting her and killing the child she had tied to her front.
- Min gathers some whale oil and oils the hinges and lets the villagers out.
- The mammoth was magical and Karthos suspects it was awakened.
- On the way back to town we're hit by an owlbear, but we have no trouble dispatching it.
- Unfortunately the awakened wolves attack, maybe hoping to catch us unawares. One uses a cold breath attack and hits Rudra and Resda.
- ... What happens next? BTW there is a weasel 20 feet to my west, between me and the left wolf.
