Background
During the incident that spurred the feud between the two goliath clans in Icewind Dale and afterward Korag tried to convince his Thuunlakalaga clan to forgive and move on from the feud of their youth. Korag believed that the two Goliath clans would fare better in the coming months/years against the eternal winter and whatever evils that might bring if they were working together and not competing for resources. This was not received well, not least of which was by his friend and clan chieftan, Ogolai Orcsplitter, who carries a heavy grudge against the offending Akannathi Clan as they were on the receiving end of the Griffon attack. Korag's insistance on cooperation was seen as weakness and as preferring the other clan over his own. As such he was exiled with heavy heart and sent off.
In exile Korag wandered south. Somewhere near Neverwinter he was beset by creatures in the wild and a group of Helmite clerics intervened and helped him. They took Korag back to their temple to nurse him back to health. Korag felt the strong kinship within the church of Helm and how they desired to protect those who can't protect themselves and this resonated with Korag so he asked to join and then took the new last name "Frosthelm" to commemorate the occasion. While not the clan of his youth, joining with the church of Helm filled a part of the void that exile had left in him. The strict adherence to duty in the church of Helm was an easy adjustment for Korag, additionally he saw that they desired to work together with whoever was willing to protect those who needed to be protected in defiance of the evils in the world. Korag believes that expanding who is considered the "clan" means that their chances of success would increase against the coming evil. So this strict adherence to duty and a code of conduct he viewed as a means to an end in working together with more diverse people. Korag believes that widening the group is better in the long run than becoming more insular and isolated.
Korag does sometimes still pine for the Goliath life in Wyrmdoom Crag with his home clan, but he doesn't hold out hope that he can ever leave exile from his people. So he protects them how he can now from outside the clan with the weight of the church of Helm and devotes himself to this service. Somewhat to forget what he no longer has in exile, and somewhat because he believes in the church of Helm's mission of protecting the people's of Faerun.
The church had become aware of a situation up north in the Dale and sought someone to investigate. Being from there and naturally adjusted for cold Korag was a natural choice. At the moment the church is short handed and sent Korag alone promising to send more priests later when possible. Korag thus seeks for fellow travellers he might train and bring with to investigate along the way. <Insert how party meets here or something>
